According to our knowledge, the Brazilian law even bans private keeping of boas. Nobody is allowed to have a pet Boa constrictor. Moreover Brazil has been practising strict export prohibitions for Boa constrictors and other boids since 1987.

Therefore it is very difficult to get true Brazilian redtail boas. One has to be very cautious, when such animals are offered, because they could either not have left the country in a legal way or one is at risk of acquiring misrepresented specimen with false locality data.

 

Its a shame, because the Brazilian Boa c. constrictor are those with the nicest coloration of all Boa c. constrictor, although the amount of red on the tail is inferior in comparison with the Surinames or Guyanas. But nevertheless a light specimen (White Brazilian redtail)  from the Belem area in Brazil with its beautiful shade would beat every redtail boa from another country or region.

In our experience, the Boa c. constrictor from Brazil reach at least the same length as the Suriname redtails. We often noticed aberrant variations in the shape of the saddle pattern especially on animals from the Belem area.
